Gail Postal
There have been two major influences on my work--old Japanese hand-tinted photographs and even older
Russian Orthodox icons. I started working with graphite on paper and used colored pencils to color parts of the
drawing, but I wanted a more intense color so I switched to graphite on board with oil paint. I am also
experimenting with different kinds of gold paint to replicate the feeling of the old icons with contemporary "saints."
