Jim Mitchell
Until six years ago, my photographic experience had been limited to typical point-and-shoot family snapshots. Then, the purchase of a 35mm
SLR opened my eyes to a world I had never noticed before...one full of fascinating images that told wonderful stories. Since then I have attempted
to capture as many of those images and stories (first on film and now digitally) as my free time permits.
Although I am still very much a newcomer to the art and craft of photography, I must admit to having become an absolute fanatic. Upon retirement
from my current CFO position in a few years, I hope to pursue this passion even more diligently and on a full-time basis.

My work has been included in a number of prestigious juried events: American Juried Art Salon (including an Award of Excellence and an Award of Merit); North American Nature
Photography Assn. (NANPA) Members’ Showcase Competitions; and the Hubbard Museum of the American West Annual Fall American Photography Competitions and
Exhibitions. I have had images published frequently in Shutterbug magazine’s monthly “Picture This!” competition and recently (May, 2007) authored a feature article for that
publication’s “Creativity-Personal Project” section. Additionally, I have had several images recognized in the International Photographer of the Year competition.
Simplicity in line and color and, where applicable, an interesting “story” are the primary features I look for in choosing subjects to photograph. I then look for texture, lighting and
(with wildlife in particular) action to add dimension and help bring the subjects to life.
