Holly Bedrosian
In every ink blot and cloud I see a face, and faces themselves are a source of unending fascination to me. I appreciate the
intricate nature of the complex contours that comprise the face, but most of all I am passionate about how the parts come
together as a whole to create a personality, character, and evoke the essence of the subject.
I strive to achieve realism in all of my art, and many of my figurative works are self-portraits that depict my artistic journey. My
portraits are created based on photographs that I take, or, occasionally I will work from client photographs. My preference is
always to meet and get to know the subject, or at the very least, to have several reference photographs from which I can
glean the subject’s character and personality. I work with colored pencil on two types of surfaces: smooth Bristol board or
rougher textured hardboard/panel. The former allows me exceptional precision and complex layering of colors, while the
latter yields a somewhat rougher and bolder “painting”, which I generally varnish and frame without glass. I select the
surface for each piece based on the subject and the mood I wish to convey. Website: www.hollybedrosian.com
