From the standpoint of the figure painter, cafe scenes have it all. Contemplating the relaxed attitude of the players,
under sometimes colorful umbrellas, the scene forms shapes and shadows which the artist can weave into an
interesting chiaroscuro. All but one of these paintings are part of a series of outdoor cafe scenes. I was inspired to
paint this series which started locally and expanded as I traveled finding a repetitive theme. Everywhere people
enjoy dining out of doors and the colorful shapes weaving in and out fascinated me
